The Journey of a Motherless Child
$19.95
In The Journey of a Motherless Child, Mi Sun Donahue offers readers a glimpse into an extraordinary life and shares some of the lessons she learned along the way interspersed with her inspirational poetry.
Born into a prominent and powerful family, the sudden and tragic death of her young mother forever altered the arc of Mi Sun’s life. Condemned to grow up a “motherless child” from the age of three, Mi Sun suffered hunger, poverty, and cruelty at the hands of more than one misguided adult who was entrusted with her care.
Despite the struggles she endured, the strength of Mi Sun’s spirit remained undimmed. She emerged from these experiences with keen insights into herself and the world around her. It is not, perhaps, the path she would have chosen for herself, but ultimately, she has learned, we are all exactly where we need to be.

Author Mi Sun Donahue Walks the Talk. Having read many “enlightening self help” books in the past, it was such a refreshing relief to read Mi Sun Donahue’s book. Loved it so much bought several for family and friends. She weaves a tale starting with her earliest child hood memories, allowing us a glimpse into her journey to self fulfillment, serenity, love and joy with never an ounce of self pity, how to, or preaching. Mi Sun’s story is enlightening and helpful but not formulaic. She is a strong believer in knowing and making your own choices to a better life and her words, thoughts, actions and musings subtlety lead the reader down that road. Again never preachy, just a soft gentle breeze at your back that says “go ahead you can do it…I did”. Mi Sun is a loving, gentle, caring woman who truly Walks her Talk. Thank you Mi Sun for The Journey of a Motherless Child: A Search for God.

This book is an inspirational illustration of one’s path to find inner peace and a ‘godful’ spirit centered around the daily struggles and triumphs in life. Though the author tells of some of her own personal struggles, the reader is taken to one’s own self-presence of the why and when one is called upon to find inner strength and perseverance to go on. The author shares her personal struggles both poetically and autobiographically, facing many challenges, starting with the loss of her mother at a tender age, and her personal search for a meaningful life. Many of us have asked the same questions to which the book allows the reader to confront one’s own evasive goals. Inspirational and enjoyable reading.

A Journey of Reflection. When I began reading “The Journey of a Motherless Child,” by Mi Sun Donahue I entered on a journey of enlightenment. Mi Sun sets the theme early on in the chapter entitled “Words of My Grandmother,” where she recalls her grandmother telling her three parable-like adages for life. What struck me was the similarity between the author’s grandmother’s words of wisdom to a young child, and those of my own grandmother to me. The two grandmothers were separated by culture, language, geography, and time, but shared the powerful instinct of sharing their wisdom with their young loved ones.
This is not a how-to manual but rather a poignant reflection on life’s journey by the author who left her native Korea in 1970 to become an American citizen in 1973. I recognized myself as she shared her thoughts on life, on love, on being a parent, and making the regretful mistake of raising one’s voice to her child. The book, interspersed with the author’s, poems, drawings a few family pictures, and her own beautiful photographs, is filled with moving anecdotes of personal experience in handling loss, overcoming adversity, forgiving, and finding faith.

The Most Beautiful Book I Have Ever Read! Mi Sun’s story is an incredible journey that let’s the reader see how scary the world can be through the eyes of an orphan. Her inspiring collection of poems, thoughts, and principles are worthy of every nightstand. The calligraphy is breathtaking. Open the book at sunrise to any page and you will be off to a good day. It is the most beautiful book I have ever read.

Very moving memoir. This book is a touching and heartwarming collection of life stories, chosen to show the life lessons that apply to us all. The stories are interspersed with thoughtful short writings and marvelous illustrations. These writings/poems are moving without being syrupy, and come from the heart. Well worth the read.

I am a yoga and meditation teacher. I have found so much inspiration from Mi Sun’s book, “A Motherless Child” both for my students and myself. Mi Sun chronicles her early years in Korean where she was born and her journey through many adverse experiences. The poems and reflections that she was inspired to write are words of faith, hope, strength and encouragement. I enjoy reading it again and again.
